I am creating a Landscape Designers Challenge in Hartford this spring, with the www.LandscapeDesignersChallenge.com for more information.

Hartford's First Annual

Landscape Designers Challenge – May 5th, 2012
Transforming Hartford One Block at A Time

On May 5 the transformation of one block of Ashley Street in Hartford will take place.

Sixteen Landscape Designers have agreed to donate their time and expertise to rejuvenating front yards of the Victorian style homes on this historic street.

The event has attracted the attention of the Mayor, Pedro Segarra and the Secretary of State Denise Merrill who have agreed to serve as judges.

As Landscape Designers we are uniquely able to create a lasting impact on our surroundings. We are at the forefront of changing the landscape with education and new design principles like natives, right plant in the right place, and permaculture. Through the Landscape Design Challenge we can rejuvenate the neediest landscapes, our inner cities, and change the lives of the people who live there. We can do this one block at a time.

It is our hope that this inaugural event will be so successful that it will spread to other cities and towns across Connecticut and the nation. We are promoting the event through all media outlets and hope that volunteers will spread the word to their own communities. The Hartford Landscape Design Challenge is “groundbreaking” in every sense of the word.

Together, through Design, we can make a difference.

Saturday, May 5th. Installation will begin at 7 a.m. and Judging will begin at 12 p.m., with prizes awarded directly after. The Judges for this event are Secretary of State Denise Merrill; Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra; Deborah Roberts; Mary Ellen Pirozzoli, and Lelaneia Dubay.

This event is sponsored and coordinated by Northside Institutes Neighborhood Alliance Inc. of Hartford, Knox Parks, and Lelaneia Dubay of Dubay Design of Hartford. APLDCT has donated the Grand Prize of $500.

Please consider coming out and helping the Designers on one of the work days or the install day.
